17. bis 25.2.2023

»Give us a poem!« students shouted to the famous boxer and human rights activist Muhammad Ali in 1975. "Me We" was his prompt reply. This spontaneously written short poem became world famous and its four letters have a deep socio-political and humanistic message.
Under the title ›MeWe‹, cresc... In 2023, over two weekends, the relationship between individual and community in a variety of varieties of contemporary music.
Contemporary music meets sci-fi funk and Afro-beat, the Icelandic music scene meets a West African-German band. The audience is invited to experience Sir Harrison Birtwistle's powerful ›Earth Dances‹ both in concert and as a walk-in sound sculpture and to put together an edible composition on an unusual course.
The audience also actively acts as performers before creating a ›do-it-yourself-agit-pop-up restaurant‹ together. The world premieres of selected composers also deal with the demand »Give us a poem!«

In addition to the festival-organizing Ensemble Modern and hr-Sinfonieorchester as well as the Frankfurt Radio Big Band, the Swedish-Ethiopian experimental vocalist Sofia Jernberg, the Icelandic trombonist, arranger and Afro-Funk specialist Samúel Jón Samúelsson, the West African-German Liberation Orchestra of Inverted Traditions, the Australian composer Cathy Milliken, the Frankfurter freitagsküche, the English conductor Stefan Asbury and the Italian composer Lucia Ronchetti as well as young international musicians, conductors and composers of the IEMA Ensemble, the Schallfeld Ensemble and the International Composer & Conductor Seminars (ICCS).
